Yet again, I've been poking through Goo-Net's listings.
This time, I've returned to the US$2,000 and under section, looking for bargains on cars that aren't of Japanese origin.
My first two finds are a pair of Swedish wagons, a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with 122,000km, or about 75,807 miles, and a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with 86,000km, or about 53,438 miles.
Both come equipped with both a cassette and CD player, leather seating, power seats, and sunroofs.
Both are being sold for US$1,870 each.
US$1,820 will get you this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! Style 5-door with 45,000km, or just under 28,000 miles.
Power windows, keyless entry, and, judging by the radio in the dashboard, a CD player are all included.
US$1,950 will get you a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (Japanese market Corsa).
Again, power windows, keyless entry, and a CD player are included in this 54,000km/33,554 mile Opel.
Or, if you want a more practical Opel, there's this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! with 118,000km/73,322 miles, for US$1,830.
No CD player on this one, just a cassette player, but keyless entry and power windows are included.
Or, how about an Astra? This !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! is a one-owner car with 64,000km/39,678 miles, CD player, keyless entry, and power windows.
It's in fantastic condition, and at US$1,950, it's not too hard on the wallet.
Going back to Vitas, this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! for US$1,700 is another bargain.
The mileage is listed as 10,000km, though I'm a little skeptical about it not being a typo.
The car, though, it pretty neat. It lists CD player as 'yes', but the dash only has a cassette deck. That's because there's a factory 6-disc Panasonic CD Changer in the back.
No keyless entry, but it does have power windows.
Then, when you think that's it, there's MORE Opels!
This !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! wagon has 121,000km, or just a little over 75,000 miles, has a sunroof, CD player, and power windows, and it also seems to have had a little work done to it.
It can be yours for just US$1,770.
At the top end of the $0-2,000 spectrum is this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has 95,000km, or just over 59,000 miles.
The listing says it has a CD player, but all I see is a cassette deck. Maybe it has a CD changer in the back, like the Vita above.
Power windows are also a yes.
The price? US$1,980.
If you're looking for something more American, look no further than this !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! that's had some work done inside and out.
Aftermarket 'rims', a light bodykit (not bad looking, other than the side skirts), lowered suspension, (possibly real) wood trim, and a haphazardly installed radio.
CD player and power windows? Absolutely.
Price? US$1,890.
Right below that is a !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! (aka Jetta) GLi with 50,000km, or just over 31,000 miles.
Don't let the GLi trim fool you, this is no GTI sedan, as it only has a 2.0 4-cylinder engine under the hood, not a VR6.
Just a cassette player and power windows, this low mileage Vento is cheap, just US$1,830.
So, there you have it. It's not that easy to find a non-Japanese car in Japan for under US$2,000, but when you do, there's some pretty nice options out there.

I found a Toyota Sera a few months ago for bargain prices and manual gearbox. It was a good day.

goo-net is not a good idea if you want to buy. I would use the auctions.

Has a search with history going back a while on what any car has sold for. This is where you buy Japanese cars. Far cheaper and the importer that hosts that is the least expensive of any of them and also happens to be the best.
